“After a particularly strenuous spring afield, one
teeming day in early August she spent the morning in the river bottom beside
the Wabash. A heavy rain followed by August sun soon had her dripping while she
made several studies of wild morning glories . . . “

I have completed my second visit to the Limberlost Swamp site near Geneva, Indiana and hopefully not my last. It’s hard to imagine that this was once the location of a great almost impenetrable jungle-like swamp of over 13,000 acres. Even at the time of Gene Stratton-Porter’s sojourning there, it was being drained by farmers, oilmen and lumbermen insomuch that she eventually moved away and built a great house on Sylvan Lake in Rome City, Indiana. Well, enough of that. I wanted to share a few photos to show you that the morning glories of the Limberlost are still there for you to see and enjoy.
